The Benelux Association for Energy Economics (BAEE) and the Department of Economics at the University of Antwerp warmly welcome you to the policy workshop:

Flexibility in EU electricity markets

Date: Friday 13th December 2019
The transition from a conventional fossil-fuel dominated electricity market to a low-carbon one with intermittent generation calls for sufficient flexible supply and demand sources to balance the energy system.

This policy workshop will highlight economic fundamentals of flexibility markets, the current regulatory framework and the policy challenges.

We are delighted to welcome the two keynote speakers. Prof. Richard Green (Imperial College London) opens the workshop with a review of the economics of flexibility. In the afternoon, Paul Giesbertz (VP regulatory affairs, Statkraft) provides background on current practices in EU member states and will look forward to developments in light of the new EU legislation. We also foresee discussants to share their perspectives and very much look forward to the discussions with the audience.
